This class will progress through a combination of lecture and class discussion of assigned exercises. This course is a pre-calculus introduction to statistics. Topics include elementary probability, measures of central tendency and spread, normal distributions, sampling, confidence intervals, estimation, hypothesis testing, and regression and correlation. Emphasis will be placed on the use of calculators and utility of mathematics as a problem-solving tool. Computer packages may also be used. There will be extensive discussion of applications in natural science, social science, and business.
